Have you ever said or done anything that hurt someone? Or have you ever said or done something that has made someone dislike you? If you have, then you should make amends with those people, even if you dont talk to them anymore.
God says to forgive and forget. But what you can do is forgive them, you dont have to forget what happened, but you can surely forgive them for what they did. It has been proven that if you forgive someone, its healthier than holding a grudge of what happened maybe years ago. It can make you a happier person. It works because I made amends with some people with situations that happened many years ago.
I made amends with a guy that I have had the privilege of knowing. We both shared the same amend that had effected both of us when we were in 5th grade (I know such a long time ago! Now were juniors in high school!). We had hated (and I mean HATED) each other. We hated each other so much that if we were put in a room together, one of us would have been seriously hurt in the end. We said nasty, hurtful, and hateful things directly and indirectly all throughout 5th grade. But that summer things had changed.
What happened that summer was truly amazing. That summer, we had both signed up for Jr. Lifeguards at the lake by our house. I remember walking in on the first day and seeing him there really ruined my day. I had thought to myself, but also said to him, "Why are you here?" I had thought my summer was ruined, but it had turned out to be one of the best summers of my life. We had got put in the same group where we would spend the entire summer together.
We had learned to deal with each other and also how to be nice to each other. We had become really close friends that summer, and weve been good friends ever since then.
So recently at church camp, our pastor had told us to go to the people who we needed to make amends with if they were there. We had seen each other and I went up to him and hugged him for a good 5 minutes. I just cried on his shoulder and gave silent apologies because we both knew it was because of what happened 6 years ago in 5th grade. It felt so good to officially make amends with God and with him.
I can personally tell you that it felt like a small weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Why only a small weight? Because I still need to make amends with other people too who werent at the camp like he was. Thats when ALL the weight is going to be lifted from me. Thats when God is going to take all of it off.
Friends, look back a little in your life and think, "What have I said or done to hurt others?" and I guarantee that you will find at least two people you need to make amends with. When you find those people, go up to them and make amends with them, even if that means saying that you were wrong. Just say, "Im sorry for what I did to you." It will make things so much better I can promise you that dear friends, because it feels great. So go out there and make your amends with the people so that you can feel this amazing feeling too. :)
